  • Media Production Crew

    FRIDAY 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 | 9am to 3pm

    Presented by Essential Screen Skills, this full day intensive will take you through the entire filmmaking process with participants operating as a media production crew. First half of the day you will learn sound skills (recording, boom swinging with professional equipment) and camera skills (for interview/b roll). The second half of the day you will head out in your crew and capture the festival. The edited film will be shown at the closing ceremony on Sunday 29 September.

    $20 per person 12 to 18 years, or $40 per person 19 years and over.

  • Creating Great Characters

    SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 | 10am to 11.30am

    Great characters make a story, and you can learn how to create great characters for the screen with Christine Rogers, a Ngāi Tahu/Pākehā academic, filmmaker and textile artist with multiple screen credits in drama, documentary, corporate and digital stories. She holds a PhD from RMIT University, and her writing has been published in journals, anthologies, and newspapers. She is a screen media lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

    $15 per person.

  • Vertical Filmmaking

    SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 | 12pm to 2pm

    Vertical videos are mostly used on Instagram or other social media channels. You can crop your widescreen footage or purposely shoot vertically. Learn about composition, camera movement, export settings and more.

  • Playing with Words

    SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 | 2.30pm to 4pm

    Join Paul Williams, Associate Professor in Creative Writing at the University of the Sunshine Coast, for an introduction to creative writing craft based on his well-regarded book Playing with Words. This workshop will help you develop your writing, trying out new styles and approaches along the way.

    $15 per person.
