Do you have an uplifting short film that needs to be screened?
Submissions for the 12th Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival(HOGISFF) are now open and we are looking for short films that are uplifting, heartwarming and inspirational to screen in October.
We are creating a special programming focus for 2019. Heart of Gold is the biggest short film festival in Queensland, and I am very excited about putting my stamp on the upcoming festival.
“I’m looking for short films that remind us that there is deep beauty and joy everyday life. That as human beings, despite all of our pain, we go on loving anyway, and that even though pain is real, so is hope. Films that can simultaneously conjure up new worlds, reflect our daily lives and inspire us to change ourselves and our communities for the better”.
Lydia Fairhall – HOGISFF Artistic Director
With films from renowned international festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Berlinale and Venice, past winners of the Heart of Gold Best Short film award include James Lucas and Mat Kirkby for The Phone Call (2014) and Lucy Gaffy for Dream Baby (2016), who went on to win an Academy Award and an AACTA respectively.
Selected shorts compete for a range of jury awards, which this year include but are not limited to: Best Short Film, Best Australian Short Film, Best Student Short Film and the Gympie Gold Award, with prizes that range from $500 to $5000 in value.
Our 12th festival will be a celebration of storytelling and community, a moment in the year to pause, reflect, inspire and connect.
Over four days from 3-6 October 2019, Heart of Gold will screen more than 120 short films from all genres, alongside an exciting extras program of workshops, family activities, free events and filmmaker discussions to delight filmmakers, film lovers and local audiences.
Our festival is so well-loved by those who attend – our audience treasures short film and this is what makes screening at Heart of Gold such a delight for filmmakers.
Submissions via FilmFreeway have an early bird deadline of April 30, with the final deadline being June 30.
