For better or worse, like it or not, film is the most powerful and influential medium we have today. Film has, to some degree, replaced books as the way our stories, values and traditions are passed down. This festival exists to encourage the telling of stories that give us hope and make us laugh. We screen and promote films that move us, or move the world, in positive directions.

Heart of Gold is four and half days of fun, inspiration and stimulation - a feast of well-crafted films that nourish us and send us back into life smiling. What more can we ask?

Highlights include wonderful short films from all corners of the planet, some special 'featured' features and documentaries, parties, seminars, intimate Q & A sessions with filmmakers and a sensational Award Dinner. Filmmakers & crew from all over the world will be in attendance.

The Short Film Competition has a first prize of $5,000 cash for Best Short Film.

In 2009 we are also introducing a two day FAMILY Film Festival that runs on the Saturday and Sunday at an alternate venue.

The film festival is only one part of our wider vision which is to get film that nourishes into as many places as possible and to get money into the hands of the amazing filmmakers who make them.
