How to do Everything!

Nothing is impossible..

Here are some hints and links to aid you in your film-festival-ish quest. Enoy!

These days it seems like everyone is longing for an infusion of hope, inspiration, laughter and fun. Heart of Gold International Film Festival is here to give you just that! Come and join us in the picturesque town of Gympie this October when we offer a gourmet platter of enriching soul food.

Some have premiered before at various woldwide film festivals and some will be seen for the first time at our festival.

How do I get there?

Check out "About The Area", which includes a map and directions.

Does the Festival Have Credit and EFTPOS Facilities?

At the actual event, there are only CREDIT FACILITIES at the Civic Centre. All other venues will be cash only. There is NO EFTPOS during the event.

EFTPOS and CREDIT are both available through the Mary St Office up until 3.30 on Wed 24th October.

How do I find out which films are screening, where and when?

  1. Check out the program overview first and see what times suit you. The overview shows all three venues. The main venue is the Civic Centre
  2. Then click on 2007 LINEUP , find the drop down menu ALL SECTIONS and find the number of the session you think you may like. There will be details about what films show in each session and if you scroll over SYNOPSIS you can see more about the film/'event.

Where do I get a copy of the HOGIFF Souvenir Program?

This is available for just $5 from the office from 3rd October and at all venues during the festival.

Tell me about the shorts sessions.

With the exception of the special sessions (Irish shorts, High Falls Festival, Played the Best and Revisiting 2006) all shorts sessions are packaged in a similar way, with none really better than another. Most sessions have an emphasis on comedy and include documentary, foreign films and animation along with the drama.

Have these films been shown before?

Some have been premiered before at various worldwide film festivals and some will be seen for the first time at our festival!

We have over 60 Australian Premieres and around 10 world or international premieres.

Are movies only shown one time at one location, or are they spread out across different theatres at different times?

Most films are only shown once with the exception of a few shorts that play in the REPEAT sessions at the Civic Centre. These shorts are selected primarily because the filmmaker is attending, it is an award nominee or our screeners just loved it.

Where are the films shown?

Most film sessions take place at the Heritage Theatre of the Gympie Civic Centre. Thanks to HOOPERS, BOSE and INFOCUS the theatre has been specially kitted out for the festival to ensure great sound and vision.

Other venues are TECHNOLOGY HUB (HUB) at James Nash High School and also two of the seminars are at the Gympie Conference Centre.

How's it different from seeing a regular movie?

Quite different. Sessions are introduced by a presenter, there is usually opportunity to see and meet the filmmaker and have a short question and answer period. There is a great bar (Thanks Gympie RotaryClub) and a wonderful cafe (Thanks Little Haven Palliative Care) which means there is a great feeling of community and opportunity to talk about films with your friends, the filmmakers and the jury. The films are mostly independent productions (not made by big studios) and so have a quite different feel.... you won't find too many formula films here, there is so much creativity on offer at this festival. The other big difference is that every film has been selected because of its potential to enrich your life.

What can I expect at OPENING NIGHT

A great night out!! After the 'official bit' we will screen our opening night film WE ARE TOGETHER, a feature documentary that has wowed audiences in some of the best festivals. After the film (about 9.30pm) we all get to celebrate together with fingerfood, wine and fun.

and the Award Dinner?

Well this is the FROCK UP event of the festival. You will be able to dine with the filmmakers and jury, be entertained and be part of the very fun auction of ART WITH HEART. You will be on hand to see which films get awards and later in the evening you will be treated to a screening of some of the award winning films.
