FILM CLUB
In 2022, we launched our brand new Heart of Gold Film Club to share a hand-picked selection of recent international feature films with a warm, beating heart. Held every month at the Gympie Cinemas, this club is welcome to all film lovers seeking more.
SCREENER GROUPS
For 6 months of the year, screener groups of 8-12 people meet across the region to watch the films longlisted for Heart of Gold. These groups are the backbone of what makes Heart of Gold special on the film festival scene - with the ratings and reviews of all screeners affecting each film’s chance of being accepted into the festival.
Screener spots are very limited, but every so often there are openings, so express your interest with the form to the right. If you’re interested in hosting a screener group at your home, get in touch and we can discuss that possibility too!
It is a requirement to be a Screener that you’re a current Heart of Gold Member too.

BECOME A MEMBER
Heart of Gold is a non for profit organisation run by a volunteer board of directors representing its paying members. Membership allows participation in the annual general meeting, deciding the overall direction of the festival, access to the monthly HOG members newsletter, as well as any other general meetings throughout the year. All screener group members are required to be members of the festival.
Membership is $20 for 12 months.
SUBMIT A FILM
OPEN COMPETITION FILM SUBMISSIONS ARE open FOR the 2024 FESTIVAL
Every year we play over 100+ films at the Heart of Gold flagship festival, and a selection will go on tour playing at other events across Queensland. To have your film considered for selection, enter it via FilmFreeway using the button below.
All films play in competition for a range of prizes, including Best International Film, Best Australian Film, Best Student Film, Most Inspiring Film, and many more craft prizes.
Films must be under 28 minutes and appropriate to the Heart of Gold ethos.

Young Filmmakers Competition
Under 17s or school students living in Australia can submit to the Young Filmmakers Competition!
Inspire your film students to enter for a chance to have their film screened at our festival. All entries must be 3 - 15 minutes long and are to be submitted into the ‘Short Films - Australian Filmmakers Under 17’ category on Film Freeway. Cash prizes are available.

Volunteers are the beating heart of our festival. Over our 18-year history, volunteers have always been integral to our festival, they are the smiling faces ensuring that audiences and filmmakers alike have a truly unforgettable experience at the Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival and in the world of film.

ART & MORE
We’re always on the lookout for all kinds of other DONATIONS & CONTRIBUTIONS - from flowers to furniture, printers to pickets - to help run and decorate our events. One of the big fundraisers for the festival is our ART WITH HEART program in which we display artworks from emerging and established visual artists, sculptors and craftspeople across the region and raffle off tickets to those works at the festival. If you have a piece you’d be generous enough to donate - be that a painting, a quilt, a stool or a mosaic - get in touch via the form and let us know!
Heart of Gold is a beautiful fabric made up of all the unique skills and resources of the community, so we’d love to know what particular skill you have, or thing you love, that could help enrich the festival. Get in touch!

Friends of the festival
If you love Heart of Gold, we’d love to be friends. Our ‘Friends of the Festival’ are special people in town who support us through in-kind donations or a helping hand when we need it. And for those friends who have shopfronts, we’re asking you to Go Gold.
In September, we're going to cover Gympie with gold to show visitors our golden hearts. We're asking businesses like yours around town to put up gold decorations in your shop windows or the front of your business through the month of September. Maybe that's golden fairy lights, golden tinsel, gold menus, gold meals, gold books, golden sculptures in your yard, or a liberal usage of gold spray paint. If you can't do anything public-facing, gold up your office or kitchen. It’ll be a lot of fun and bring some well-deserved attention to Gympie too.
